History
The Oxley College Basketball Club was founded in the early
1980’s by Mr Jack Dempsey. As the club grew the
school handed the running of the club over to parents and
The Eastern Eagles Basketball Club was formed. The club was
largely administered in the early days by Jack and his wife Ailsa.
Together they were President, Secretary, Coach, Team Managers,
Co-ordinators and even uniform distributors.
Jack had a heart for boys that needed a little guidance and
felt that basketball was a way he could impact on their lives in
a positive way.
Jack was heavily involved with the setting up of The Eastern Eagles
Basketball Club and his desire was to:
"provide an organisation which stands out in the community
for its high standards of conduct and values consistent with those of the Bible"
This wording was incorporated into our constitution
and as a committee we aim to fulfill Jack’s dream today.
Jack and Ailsa Dempsey both passed away in October 2003.In memory of Jack we
annually present the Jack Dempsey Memorial Trophy
together with a $250 voucher to a player we believe is
consistently displaying character and sportsmanship
reflective of Jack's dream.
